Building Engineering and Building Refurbishment

RE3_Lab - Building Refurbishment and Energy Efficiency

RE3_Lab is a centre of reference in the field of research and development of innovative strategies for the regeneration, the resilience and the refurbishment of the existing building stock and the built environment. The laboratory renders different services in order to reach the required objectives of sustainability in the building sector in consideration of the global decarbonization targets. RE3_Lab also offers training and information activities addressed to professionals, specialists, public administrators, stakeholders from private and public sector.
RE3_Lab may support decision-making processes of local public authorities for the definition and selection of the most suitable strategies at the macro scale (urban heat island investigation and mitigation, zero-carbon buildings both new and existing) and at the micro scale (investigation of thermal and environmental behavior of buildings and building components).
The laboratory conducts research in the following collaborative fields:

  • energy-efficient upgrade of existing buildings stock
  • innovative zero-carbon materials and technologies for new or existing buildings
  • future-proofing of the existing buildings
  • strategies for climate change resilience
  • urbane micro-climate and impacts on the urban heat island effect
  • nature-positive regeneration strategies at urban and territorial scale
  • scientific and technical advice for refurbishment and regeneration projects
  • environmental impact assessment towards zero-carbon buildings
  • training and technical courses for professionals
